FROM 1981 TO 1989.
1981
Foundation After decades of experience in the field of plant and power station
construction and as a sales manager for electric heating systems, Peter Reiter
founded ETHERMA in 1981.
1982
The core business is the heating of private and social residential buildings,
hotels and commercial buildings with underfloor storage heaters. This period was
characterized by good sales work, the development of new calculation and
dimensioning methods in the absence of existing standards and experience and the
development of new and efficient control methods. This period also saw the
development of the practical articulated crossbar, which is still popular with
fitters today and enables quick and varied installation. A large selection of
heating mat sizes enables precise planning adapted to performance and room
geometry.
1986
Planning and construction of the first fully electrically heated large hotel in
Europe with underfloor storage heating. Market launch of the self-designed silicone
constant heating tape, WPH for heating long pipes (400 V) and SHK for gutter
heating. Expansion on foreign markets (Germany, Spain), beginning cooperation and
supplier for electrical wholesalers such as Elin, Siemens i-center, further large
orders from housing cooperatives, project planning and commissioning of the Hotel
Ananas (largest electrically heated hotel in Vienna).
1988
Development of the mesh heating mat for laying in a bed of tile adhesive. Design
protection at the Munich Patent Office. A product with a success story. Thanks to
the sewing technique, it is still the most installation-friendly heating mat on the
market.
FROM 1990 TO 1999.
1990
Heating of more than 1,000 apartments with underfloor, storage, partial storage or
direct heating, especially in social housing. Founding of the sales office in
Vienna, major order, project planning and delivery of electric underfloor heating
for the Sobiesky Hotel in Warsaw.
1994
Further consolidation on the domestic market, creation of sales partnerships in
Switzerland and Holland. 1993 Foundation of the company ETHERMA Skandinavia OY in
Finland.
1996
Construction of a new company building with modern offices and a production hall
for the manufacture of heating mats in Henndorf. The product range is expanded to
include church bench heating panels and underfloor heating panels.
1997
Introduction of underfloor convectors made of extruded aluminum for heating houses
with wooden floor constructions and for preventing cold air
from alling through large panes of glass.
1998
The ST heating mat for installation in mastic asphalt is significantly improved by
adding a stable glass fiber mesh to the practical support crossbars. An unrivaled
product (design-protected at the Munich and Vienna Patent Office) that enables
installation without fixing to the subfloor and does not float up in mastic
asphalt. Especially suitable for heating helipads.
FROM 2000 UNTIL TODAY.
2000
With the introduction of the electrosmog-free dipole heating conductor on
self-adhesive large-grid support mesh, the DS tile heating system was born. VDE
tested in accordance with DIN EN 60335-1 (VDE 0700-1):2007-02
2003
The NSP heating mat with Teflon insulated heating conductor was developed for the
subsequent installation of open space heating on existing concrete or asphalt
surfaces. It is installed in a polyurethane or epoxy resin covering that is only 15
- 20 mm thick.
2008
ETHERMA perfects its range of wall-mounted heaters with the LAVA designer infrared
heating panel. In addition to its elegant design in the colors white, red, black
and mirror, this heating panel offers pleasant heat radiation. Takeover of the
factory representation for Olsberg night storage heaters type III and II for
Austria. Foundation of a subsidiary in Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo.
2009
Foundation of ETHERMA Deutschland GmbH. Thomas Reiter becomes Managing Director of
both companies in Austria and Germany.
2010
ETHERMA becomes the exclusive sales partner for SOLAMAGIC products, thus expanding
the product portfolio in the infrared heating sector with high-quality short-wave
infrared heaters.
2011
Great success at the KBIS (the world's largest kitchen and bathroom exhibition) in
Las Vegas when the LAVA is awarded "Best Product in Show".
2012
Opening of Plant 2 in Henndorf as a new production facility to meet the high demand
for LAVA design infrared heating appliances.
2013
Development of a new corporate identity - in the course of this, the ETHERMA logo
is given a facelift. The thermostat product range is further expanded and the
popular eTOUCH series is added.
2014
ETHERMA is a founding member of the IG-Infrared association, which has set itself
the task of enforcing binding quality standards in the booming infrared heating
sector.
2017
In December 2017, another important step towards internationalisation was taken.
ETHERMA Holding GmbH is the result of the merger of Jowitherm Nederland BV and
ETHERMA Elektrowärme GmbH, based in Henndorf. At the same time, Jowitherm Nederland
BV became ETHERMA Benelux BV. ETHERMA Austria thus takes on a dual function as the
sales organization for Austria and as the production headquarters. ETHERMA Germany
and ETHERMA Benelux are sales subsidiaries.
2018
Viessmann, one of the leading international manufacturers of heating, industrial
and cooling systems, acquires a stake in ETHERMA. The investment strengthens
ETHERMA's Salzburg site with its production facilities, as growth potential can now
be exploited even better.
2023
The international expansion course is continued. The ETHERMA Group has grown
continuously in recent years. The focus on expansion and internationalization is an
important reason for this; ETHERMA is now active in over 10 countries. With the
founding of ETHERMA Nordics, based in Copenhagen, we are expanding further north
and opening up the markets of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.
